After Just One Season in Charge
The Bulldogs Finished 5-6 Under Arnett's Leadership
Zachary Arnett, born September 10, 1986, is an American football coach who is an analyst at the University of Mississippi Ole Miss.
Mississippi State has fired football coach Zack Arnett in his first season leading the program athletic director Zac Selmon announced. Arnett's firing comes after the Bulldogs finished the regular season with a 5-6 record. Mississippi State opened the season with a 39-17 win over Memphis but lost its next four games to Arizona, LSU, Kentucky, and Alabama.The Bulldogs then won three straight games against Texas A&M, Arkansas, and Auburn before losing their final three games of the season to Georgia, Vanderbilt, and Ole Miss.
Arnett was hired as Mississippi State's head coach in December 2021 after spending the previous four seasons as the defensive coordinator at Florida State. He was a three-time All-American linebacker at New Mexico State and played in the NFL for the Pittsburgh Steelers and St. Louis Rams.
Mississippi State will now begin a search for a new head coach. The Bulldogs have not won an SEC Championship since 1941 and have only won 10 games in a season once since 2014.
