June 6, 202410:32 AM ET - Veterans and world leaders, including US President Joe Biden and Britain's King Charles, have gathered in Normandy, France, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day. The events mark the historic liberation of Normandy from Nazi occupation during World War II.

This year's anniversary is expected to be the last for many veterans due to their advanced age. Christophe Receveur of France, who unfurled an American flag on Omaha Beach on D-Day, is among those attending the commemorations.

The National D-Day Memorial in Virginia, USA, will also hold a commemoration ceremony on Thursday, June 6, 2024, to honor the sacrifices made during the liberation.
